Encouraging Canadians to share their wishes about end-of-life care
April 16 was National Advance Care Planning Day

The Partnership joined more than 25 other organizations to champion April 16 as National Advance Care Planning Day – a day for Canadians to speak with family and friends about their wishes for end-of-life care.

Led by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, National Advance Care Planning Day raises awareness of the need to reflect on and communicate one’s personal care preferences in the event that one becomes incapable of expressing treatment wishes. In addition to supporting advance care planning, the Partnership is working to improve palliative and end-of-life care in many areas for Canadians.

New resource available on cancerview.ca

A new resource available at cancerview.ca shows that second-hand smoke can increase the risk of cancer among non-smokers and that the highest rate of exposure to second-hand smoke in Canada is among youths aged 12–19 years. The report also shows that exposure to second-hand smoke in Canada has decreased since 2003.

The Cancer Control Snapshot series synthesizes available information and provides Canadian health-care professionals with knowledge on data, trends, emerging issues and initiatives underway across the country in an easy-to-read format.
