Measuring progress to help drive improvements
in cancer control

2010 System Performance Report released

Optimizing the cancer control system for Canadians is at the heart of the Partnership’s work. But unless it is clear how well the cancer control system is performing, it is difficult for cancer agencies and other health partners to know where to focus their improvement efforts. In response to this challenge, the Partnership developed the System Performance Initiative, a pan-Canadian approach to reporting on performance across the cancer control continuum.

The System Performance Initiative is a collaboration among the Partnership and the provincial cancer agencies. The initiative collects data from a number of sources, including Statistics Canada, provincial cancer partners and provincial registries that are presented in the 2010 System Performance Report. The report examines the performance of Canada’s national cancer control system and identifies areas where cancer agencies and other partners can focus quality improvement efforts. Results are shared with provincial cancer agencies and health ministries as the Report is developed, and their feedback shapes the final report presentation.

A new online resource for people working in cancer control

A new resource for health care providers who work with First Nations, Inuit or Métis populations is now available on Cancer View Canada. The recently launched resource provides information on a number of cancer control topics including prevention, testing, treatment, and living with cancer.

The Partnership is working to expand content for this new section and organizations are encouraged to submit suggestions for materials to include. Please click here to visit the site and learn more.

Reminder for Advisory Group applications
Advisory Group Renewal 2011/12

The Partnership's Advisory Groups are a collaborative network of volunteer experts established to advise the Partnership in each of its priority areas. Advisory groups draw on the knowledge of cancer control experts from across Canada's health care system.

The goal of the annual renewal process is to achieve an accountable, transparent, equitable and continuous process for participation of individual experts and organizational representatives on Advisory Groups. Currently, the Partnership’s Screening Advisory Group is looking for an individual expert member who can provide the perspective of organized cancer screening programs to join their Advisory Group for 2011/2012. The Partnership is also calling for organizational representatives that are recruited from our partner organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Cancer Action Network and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Candidates are selected based on geography, expertise, patient participation, community/populations and appropriate partnerships.

The application process began on November 30, 2010 and applications are due Monday, January 17, 2011. New members will be fully engaged by April 1, 2011.
